Strengthening and Unleashing America’s Law Enforcement to Pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Citizens

Published: Mon 28th Apr 25

President Trump issued an executive order focused on strengthening law enforcement across the United States.

The order directs the Attorney General to provide legal resources and indemnification to law enforcement officers facing unjust accusations, maximize the use of federal resources to support state and local agencies, utilize national security assets to aid law enforcement, and hold accountable state and local officials who impede law enforcement or engage in discriminatory practices.

The order aims to create safer communities by empowering law enforcement to aggressively combat crime while also emphasizing protection and support for officers.

Protecting American Communities from Criminal Aliens

This executive order prioritizes the enforcement of federal immigration laws by designating and penalizing 'sanctuary jurisdictions' that obstruct these laws.

It directs the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security to identify these jurisdictions, notify them of their non-compliance, and pursue legal remedies to ensure adherence to federal law.

Further measures include developing mechanisms for verifying eligibility for federal benefits within sanctuary jurisdictions and taking action against state and local laws prioritizing aliens over American citizens.

The order asserts the federal government's plenary authority in immigration and national security.

This April 17, 2025, presidential memorandum extends a freeze on hiring for federal civilian employees through July 15, 2025.

The freeze applies to all executive branch agencies, barring exceptions for national security, public safety, immigration enforcement and essential services.

Future hiring must comply with a merit-based hiring plan.

Contracting to circumvent the freeze is prohibited, and agencies are instructed to use existing personnel efficiently.

The memorandum also does not affect the deadline for a plan to reduce the federal workforce.

Exceptions may be granted by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

The freeze will remain in effect for the IRS until the Treasury Secretary determines otherwise and publishes a notice in the Federal Register.

The memorandum details phased implementation, starting in a limited sector before expanding, while clarifying that actions are consistent with existing laws and subject to budgetary approvals.
