National Homeownership Month, 2026
This Presidential Proclamation officially declares June 2026 as National Homeownership Month, using the occasion to frame the administration's efforts as actively reversing a housing affordability crisis inherited from the previous administration.
The President asserts success through actions like issuing an Executive Order for price relief, directing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to purchase mortgage-backed securities to lower borrowing costs, and banning large institutional investors from buying single-family homes.
The proclamation concludes by urging Congress to enact permanent housing reforms and vows continued commitment to ensuring homes belong to families rather than corporations.
Arguments For
The designation of National Homeownership Month promotes awareness and focuses national attention on the importance of homeownership for economic stability and community building.
Highlighting actions taken to address the housing affordability crisis, such as restrictions on large institutional investors, is framed as directly benefiting American families by increasing housing supply and reducing competition.
Actions taken to reduce borrowing costs, like directing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to purchase mortgage-backed securities, are presented as methods to make homeownership more accessible through lower rates.
Calling for Congress to make stated reforms permanent and pass new comprehensive legislation signals a commitment to long-term structural improvements in housing policy.
Arguments Against
The proclamation asserts that a previous administration caused a housing affordability crisis through "reckless spending" and flawed policies, which opposition may argue inaccurately assigns blame or ignores broader economic factors.
Actions targeting "illegal aliens and fraudsters" in federal housing programs could be seen as diverting attention from systemic affordability issues or as politically motivated rhetoric.
Banning institutional investors from purchasing single-family homes faces criticism that it restricts capital flow in the housing market, potentially limiting the development or supply of rental or starter homes.
The call for specific legislative action (21st Century ROAD to Housing Act) may be opposed by those who favor different regulatory approaches or object to the scope and nature of the proposed bill.
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
This introductory text establishes the authority for the document, indicating that the text that follows is a formal Proclamation issued by the President of the United States.
During National Homeownership Month, my Administration recommits to making housing more affordable so that young Americans and hardworking families can raise children, build memories, and create a future in a home of their own.
The President uses the context of National Homeownership Month to state a renewed commitment aimed at making housing more affordable for young Americans and working families.
For too long, reckless spending, burdensome regulations, and failed housing policies drove up home prices and mortgage rates while mass illegal immigration and large institutional investors strained the housing supply. The result was a housing affordability crisis brought on by the failed leadership of the previous administration. Now, under my leadership, my Administration is fixing the mess we inherited and restoring the American Dream of homeownership.
This paragraph attributes the existing housing affordability crisis to past policies, citing reckless spending, excessive regulations, high home prices, mortgage rates, strain from illegal immigration, and large institutional investors.
The current administration claims to be rectifying these inherited problems to restore homeownership opportunities.
From the first day I returned to office, I proudly signed an Executive Order to deliver price relief to Americans crushed by the left-wing cost-of-living crisis — launching a bold new era of progress on supply, affordability, and opportunity for every hardworking family across our country. My Administration is working to restore integrity to Federal housing programs by ensuring taxpayer-sponsored loans once again reach the law‑abiding citizens who truly need them, not illegal aliens and fraudsters who rob Americans of more affordable housing options. I have also directed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to purchase $200 billion in mortgage-backed securities to further drive down borrowing costs so that more of our citizens can achieve homeownership.
The President details specific actions taken upon returning to office, including signing an Executive Order to provide price relief and launching initiatives focused on housing supply and affordability.
The administration is working to ensure federal housing loans benefit only law-abiding citizens, excluding undocumented immigrants and fraudsters.
Additionally, the Federal Housing Finance Agency entities, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, were directed to buy $200 billion in mortgage-backed securities to lower borrowing costs.
Earlier this year, I took unprecedented action to ban large institutional investors from purchasing single-family homes, keeping more houses available for American families, not corporations. Through the Stopping Wall Street from Competing with Main Street Homebuyers Executive Order, we put prospective homebuyers back at the front of the line, directing Federal agencies to block big corporations from using Government-backed resources to outbid responsible homebuyers and unleashing the full power of antitrust enforcement to stop corporate giants from manipulating rents and pricing families out of their own neighborhoods. I call on the Congress to make these reforms permanent and pass the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act — the most comprehensive and consequential housing legislation in the history of our country.
This part highlights an action taken earlier in the year to prohibit large institutional investors from buying single-family homes, aiming to reserve inventory for families.
This was executed through the Stopping Wall Street from Competing with Main Street Homebuyers Executive Order, which also directs agencies to prevent corporations from using government resources to outbid individuals and involves using antitrust enforcement against corporate manipulation of rent and prices.
The President urges Congress to codify these changes into law via the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.
The victories we have achieved for American homeowners and homebuyers are unprecedented, and my Administration will never stop fighting to protect and expand them. Under my leadership, America will be a Nation where homes belong to families — not corporations — and we will never rest until the full promise and prosperity of this great Nation is felt by every hardworking citizen in a home they can proudly call their own.
The President asserts that the administration has achieved historic successes for homeowners and pledges continued effort to protect and increase these gains.
The goal articulated is to ensure that American homes are owned by families rather than corporations, promising ongoing dedication until every citizen experiences prosperity through homeownership.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2026 as National Homeownership Month.
This is the formal enacting clause.
Using the constitutional and legal authority granted to the President, Donald J. Trump officially declares the month of June 2026 to be National Homeownership Month.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twelfth day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
DONALD J. TRUMP
This concluding section provides the ceremonial closing, noting the date the proclamation was signed: June 12, 2026, the 250th year of American Independence.
It is followed by the President's signature.
