Defence Legislation
Laws and policies relating to military operations, defense procurement, armed forces administration, and national security strategy.
The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Leeming) Regulations 2026 prohibit aircraft from flying below 7,000 feet within a 5-nautical-mile radius of RAF Leeming during specific periods on 22 and 23 July 2026.
These restrictions apply to all aircraft except those granted specific permission by the Leeming Show Flying Display Director.
The Department for Transport issued these regulations to facilitate public flying displays and manage safety during high-energy aerial manoeuvres.
The Armed Forces (Review of Court Martial Sentence) (Amendment and Supplementary Provision) Regulations 2026
These Regulations expand the list of offences for which the Attorney General may refer a Court Martial sentence to the Court Martial Appeal Court on the grounds of undue leniency.
They add a wide range of sexual, terrorism-related, and modern slavery offences to the existing review framework, ensuring service justice alignment with civilian law.
Additionally, the instrument modifies procedural timelines, allowing the Attorney General an additional 14 days to apply for a review if a request is received within the final two weeks of the standard 28-day limit.
The Regulations apply to the entirety of the United Kingdom and govern the sentencing oversight of persons subject to service law.
This document corrects a footnoting error in the Single Source Contract (Amendment) Regulations 2026.
It inserts a reference to Section 14(1) of the Defence Reform Act 2014 to provide the legal definition of 'single source regulations'.
The correction applies to all parties referencing the statutory authority of these procurement regulations.
These Regulations, formally titled the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2026, specify that certain provisions of the primary 2025 Act will officially come into force on 15th June 2026.
Specifically, this commencement activates sections relating to the Security Industry Authority's (SIA) obligations to produce mandatory guidance, subject to the Secretary of State's approval, and the requirement for the SIA to produce and publish a statement detailing the constitution of 'qualifying worldwide revenue'.
The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Royal International Air Tattoo, Royal Air Force Fairford) (Revocation) Regulations 2026
These statutory instruments formally revoke the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Royal International Air Tattoo, Royal Air Force Fairford) Regulations 2026, effective from June 4th, 2026.
The Secretary of State has determined that the flying restriction previously imposed around the Royal Air Force Fairford area for the Royal International Air Tattoo 2026 is no longer required because the air tattoo event is cancelled, allowing airspace use to return to normal operations.
The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 (Commencement No. 1) (England) Regulations 2026
These Regulations consolidate and clarify the arrangements for ensuring aviation safety within the UK Armed Forces, specifically by amending existing legislation to detail the obligations of service chiefs regarding safety compliance and granting the Secretary of State specific powers to take remedial action if necessary safety measures are found to be deficient or inadequate concerning military aircraft operations.
The Armed Forces Pension (Amendment) Regulations 2026
These 2022 Regulations amend the principal Regulations concerning pensions and compensation payable to members of the Armed Forces upon the termination of their service, detailing specific changes to the existing legal framework governing these payments.
The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Lippitt’s Hill) (Restricted Area EGR1U082) Regulations 2026
The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Lippitt's Hill) (Restricted Area EGR1U082) Regulations 2026 establish a legally mandated restriction on the flight of unmanned aircraft below 1,350 feet above mean sea level within a 0.5 nautical mile radius centred at 513916N 0000103E to ensure the security and public safety related to the National Police Air Service base located there, while permitting operations authorized by or on behalf of the National Police Air Service.
