This Presidential Action order continues the existence of fifty-two specific Federal Advisory Committees, including those related to the White House, national security, public health, trade, natural monuments, and historical preservation, until September 30, 2027.

The action supersedes sections of a prior Executive Order (EO 14109) and delegates the President's authorities under the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) concerning these committees to the heads of their designated departments or agencies.

Arguments For

  • Ensures continuity of valuable expertise and institutional memory by extending the operational period of numerous specific advisory committees until late 2027.

  • Delegates the performance of the President's management functions under the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) to the heads of the respective departments or agencies, streamlining oversight and administrative efficiency.

  • Supersedes the previous Executive Order (EO 14109), modernizing the list of committees subject to continuation and ensuring current relevance.

Arguments Against

  • Extends the life of committees whose mandates might be fulfilled or whose continued existence may no longer be necessary, potentially leading to bureaucratic redundancy.

  • The continuation date of September 30, 2027, locks in operational status for several years without current, specific review of each committee's ongoing necessity or relevance.

  • Delegation of FACA functions to agency heads, while efficient, removes a layer of direct Presidential oversight on these bodies.
